CAN WE MAKE PANEER FROM SPOILT MILK?
Yes of course! Follow the step by step instructions to make paneer at home from scratch. I have added all pictures in this tutorial to make cottage cheese.
- In the below picture you can see 1 packet of spoilt milk.
- Strain the spoilt milk or broken milk or curdled milk using a muslin cloth. Let all the whey get drained. Keep a strainer below the muslin cloth. This makes draining whey easier.
- Paneer/cottage cheese gets collected in muslin cloth. Tie it tightly and keep heavy weight on top it.
- Let it remain tightly tied for 6-8 hrs.
- When you untie the muslin cloth, you will get paneer or cottage cheese. Cut this into cubes and use this to make a variety dishes. This can stay fresh in refrigerator for 2-3 days.

What is spoilt milk?
Spoilt milk is broken milk. That happens sometimes while boiling milk. The milk solids and whey separates. This milk can be used to make cottage cheese at home. Spoilt milk does not mean milk with fungus. Please remember that it is just broken milk.
How much paneer/cottage cheese can be made from 1 litre of spoilt milk?
I have been making paneer from broken milk. Once 2 packets of milk got spoilt and I could get approximately around 200 grams of paneer from the 2 packets of spoilt milk.
What is another way to make paneer/cottage cheese at home?
Another method to make paneer at home is to curdle milk while it is boiling. For curdling milk, just add 2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice in milk while it is boiling. This will immediately curdle the milk and whey will separate from milk solids. Use this milk solids to make paneer.
What is the difference between cottage cheese and Indian homemade paneer?
Cottage cheese and Indian paneer are almost same. Only difference is that cottage cheese is salted, and Indian paneer is unsalted. The steps of making paneer and cottage cheese is same.
For how long does Indian cottage cheese remain good?
Indian cottage cheese or paneer remains good in fridge for up to 5 days.
Do We need to boil spoilt milk?
No need.

No. Milk is already spoilt.

Hi Mady,
It is not imp to add lemon to spoilt milk. But add lemon or vinegar to fresh milk to spoil it and to make paneer. Lemon or vinegar spoils milk and then we get paneer. But if it is first only spoilt then easily paneer will be formed.
