Mexican fish wraps are a low-calorie snack. Marinated fish is grilled on skewers and wrapped in tortilla with lettuce and salsa with tangy yogurt dressing. This can be added to your low-fat dinner recipes collection.
Mexican fish tortillas make a delicious snack. I have used Basa fish fillets in this recipe. You can have grilled fish to preserve the nutritional value of fish. You can also shallow fry the marinated fish fillets and add them to the wraps.
Fish is rich in omega 3 fatty acids which are essential for the proper functioning of heart and brain. Fish is also a rich source of protein and vitamin D. Basa fish is loaded with healthy fats, proteins and omega 3 and is also low in sodium and cholesterol. It helps promote heart health, builds muscle and boosts overall health.
These fish wraps are made with tomato and onion salsa and yogurt sauce dressing. Addition of salsa makes these fish wraps recipe lip-smacking delicious. You can serve this dish to children too. This dish is mildly spiced with black pepper and green chili. The addition of lemon juice and yogurt adds a tangy taste to it.
The Basa fish is very clean and does not stink. I got fish fillets from the store and used them in the Mexican fish wrap recipe. It turned delicious.

Ingredients to make fish wraps Mexican style:
- Tortilla: Corn or wheat tortilla can be used in this low-fat fish wrap recipe.
- Fish: I have used Basa fish fillet in this recipe. You can use tilapia, shrimps, salmon or any white fish.
- Lettuce leaves: Lettuce leaves are placed inside the tortilla wraps on which salsa and fish is added.
- For salsa: To make Mexican salsa, use fresh and firm tomato, red onion, green chili, coriander leaves, lemon juice, olive oil and some salt to taste.
- For marination: For marinating Basa fish, I have used black pepper powder, lemon juice and salt to taste.
- For dressing: Yogurt and Italian seasoning is mixed added as a dressing on the fish wrap recipe.
How to make low fat fish wrap in Mexican style?
- Marinate the fish and keep aside for 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix the ingredients mentioned for salsa and keep it aside.
- In another bowl, mix yogurt and seasoning for making the yogurt sauce.
- Pre-heat the oven for 5 minutes and place the marinated fish on the skewers, brush them with oil and grill them for 20 minutes at 200 C.
- To assemble the Mexican fish wraps, heat the tortilla for few seconds. Place it on a plate.
- In the centre spread the lettuce.
- Over it spread 2 tablespoon of salsa, grilled fish pieces and yogurt sauce.
- Roll the tortillas by bringing the opposite sides together.
- If the roll is very big, cut it in halves and serve with yogurt sauce and salsa.
Serving Mexican fish wraps – You can make these easy and delicious low-fat meals when you are running out of time. It can be served for lunch, evening snacks or dinner and can also be packed in the school lunch box.
Mexican Fish Wraps
Ingredients
- 1 corn/wheat tortilla
- 200 gm boneless and skinless Basa fish fillet sliced into 1-inch cubes
- 2 lettuce/salad leaves
- 1 teaspoon oil
For marination:
- 2 tablespoons black pepper powder
- 2 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For salsa:
- 1 medium sized tomato finely chopped
- 1 medium sized onion finely chopped
- 2 tablespoon coriander leaves finely chopped
- 1 green chili finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Pinch of salt
For dressing:
- 1/2 cup thick yogurt
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Marinate the fish by applying black pepper powder, lemon juice and salt. Keep it aside for 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix the ingredients mentioned for salsa and keep it aside.
- In another small bowl, mix yogurt and seasoning for making the yogurt sauce.
- Pre-heat the oven for 5 minutes.
- Place the marinated fish on the skewers, brush them with oil and grill them for 20 minutes at 200 C.
- To assemble the Mexican fish wraps, heat the tortilla for few seconds.
- Place it on a plate.
- In the centre spread the lettuce.
- Spread 2 tablespoon of salsa and grilled fish pieces.
- Add 2 tablespoon of yogurt sauce on the top of the fish.
- Roll the tortillas by bringing the opposite sides together.
- If the roll is very big, cut it in halves and serve with yogurt sauce and salsa.
Notes
- Fish can be grilled or shallow fried.
