Last weekend I had been to Nando’s Kitchen to savor the exotic Butterfly Chicken Breast Meal. Since my hubby was out of town I had to take my little one along.
I got a warm welcome by Shambhavi who is the Brand Manager at Nando’s Kitchen. She had reserved a table for me and she served as a wonderful host. Nando’s Kitchen is an International chain of restaurants with the first one to be started in South Africa with a Portuguese/Mozambican theme in the year 1987 and it has branches all over the world. It entered India in 2010 with 2 full-fledged operational restaurants, one in Bangalore and the other in Chandigarh. As of 2014 Nando’s has 7 operational restaurants in India- 2 in Bangalore, 2 in Delhi, 1 in Chennai and 2 in Punjab.
Doesn’t matter which branch you visit, the food will be same across all the branches. Not just food, even the ambiance and music is same all over the world. Their promise is to give you the excellent flavour and quality that you expect from Nando’s.
The ambiance gives a feeling of being in Portugal. The ambiance is fun, sophisticated and cheeky with a relaxed upscale atmosphere. On the wall’s of the restaurant you can see 3 types of stories painted and the paintings includes artwork created by local artisans from all over the world.
The music gets played in South Africa and over radio and through internet it gets transmitted across all the branches world-wide. So if you go to any Nando’s Kitchen outlet, you will hear the same music everywhere.
The USP of this place are the special PERi-PERi sauces which have been imported from South-Africa. It is the heart and soul of the brand. There are different spice levels for these sauces and serve as a great accompaniment to food.
They do not use any sort of preservatives in their A-grade chicken. The chicken gets marinated for 24 hours in their secret marinade before it gets cooked. The marinade is actually injected into the chicken and hence you will love every bite of it as the marinade goes deep into the layers. The chicken is never deep-fried but grilled to perfection on open flame right infront of you. And because they are butterfly cut, the chicken browns evenly and the flame grill burns off the excess fat.
Ok, before I forget let me tell you something. I used to feel that Nando’s Kitchen only specialized on Chicken and served non-vegetarian food. No! I was wrong. More than 50% of the menu is vegetarian comprising of healthy salads, wraps, burgers and meals comprising of paneer(cottage cheese). And believe me, the vegetarian food is equally good.
We started with some appetizers like Spicy mixed olives, Roasted veg dip, Hummus and warm pita. The tangy PERi-PERi olives were something which I kept munching on.

The 3 bean salad as the name says contained 3 types of beans- kidney beans, chickpeas and canoli beans and was not just tasty buy healthy too. This was my favorite in the vegetarian food.

The  chicken wings served with hot PERi-PERi sauce left an ever-lasting impression on my taste buds. We can choose the spice level according to our taste. I chose the hot sauce as I love slightly spicy taste. Next time I will try the extra hot sauce for sure.

The drinks/mocktails were really good. Shambhavi ordered Madira Red which is a sweet, fizzy, pomegranate lemonade made with sprite and finished with a delicious sugary rim. I ordered Citris Bliss which is Mojito Mint syrup, grapefruit juice, and sprite coupled with ice cubes and fresh mint leaves. Both the drinks were served in extra large glass.

The grilled corn on the cob was soft and juicy to bite through. My little one just kept munching on this.

We also ordered Cataplana Algarve which was served in an authentic copper dish with PERi-PERi paneer, grilled peppers and chick peas with their special cataplana sauce served on a bed of spicy rice. Here the paneer can be replaced by PERi-PERi chicken to get a non-veg version.

For couples who visit Nando’s Kitchen with kids, there is a kid’s menu for kid’s under 12 years. For my little one we ordered kid’s meal. It includes one side of fries , or grilled corn or wedges or spicy rice and either a fruit or a vegetable along with either a soft drink or an orange juice. You can choose from Chicken breast burger or Chicken breast strips or Veg burger. My little one chose Chicken breast strips. These were not bland, contained mild flavour but were not hot and were perfectly made to suit the child’s taste buds. So you need not worry about what will your child eat at Nando’s Kitchen. They take special care of every customer that visits them. These little ones are called Nandino’s.

Following this we ordered the special PERi-PERi Butterfly Chicken Breast which is the star here and which is currently walking the red carpet. You will get to taste this till 15th Nov 2014. The chicken breast was shaped into a butterfly and grilled to perfection in hot PERi-PERi sauce. Since it was marinated over 24 hours it was really good to bite through and enjoy the taste across all the layers. Every bite made me want another one. It is served with crispy wedges, fresh side salad and a refreshing designer drink. It’s the best of everything on the table at Rs 499.

I felt almost full, when Shambhavi took me for a tour across the restaurant. This restaurant is spread across 2 levels. I loved the Portuguese styled staircase.
Following this we ordered the dessert. We ordered the Choco cake which was a decadent chocolate cake with layers of home-made buttercream. My little one took it all for herself. I tasted it after convincing her to give me a bite and I loved it to the core.

After the meal, Nando’s Kitchen staff surprised me and made my day by gifting me a customized photo frame. They downloaded my picture from Facebook. Along with this I got to take home a bottle of PERi-PERi Sauce.
Thanks to the staff at Nando’s kitchen for making my day. I did not realize when it turned 4.00 PM.
With a happy smile I reached home and YES! for sure I will be visiting Nando’s Kitchen with my hubby and my friends soon. I want my hubby to try the PERi-PERi chicken in extra hot sauce 🙂
