Sundays are usually special days for all of us. We either cook some delicious dish for our family or we go and dine out. Whatever it is, Sunday is a day where we want to spend quality time with our family. This Sunday was no lazy day for me. I wanted to go out for lunch, preferably a brunch where I could spend time with my family. There is a saying that “People who love to cook are always the best people”. Little one said that she does not want to go to our regular hang-outs. She wanted to try something different. She is also a little foodie in making, following my foot-steps. So quickly I connected to the AskMe app on my android phone and searched for a good restaurant named – The Bungalow, Whitefield for brunch.
AskMe app as you all know is the “Baap Of All Apps”. You just have to enter 2 fields in the app. First is “what you are looking for”- I entered brunch here and 2nd is the locality – I entered Whitefield. The city Bangalore automatically got displayed. After entering all the search criteria fields, I clicked enter and I got a list of restaurants in Whitefield where Sunday brunch is being served. You can see the ratings and reviews along with the address of the restaurant. I called the restaurant from the app and booked a table for 3.
Soon we reached the restaurant. Luckily we got a parking slot right outside the restaurant. Parked the car and entered “The Bungalow”.
Ambiance:
This place has a theme of an old Bangalorean bungalow. At first it looked like any ordinary restaurant. But then as I looked around, I found tall wooden windows, old chairs and antiques clocks. The restaurant is spread on huge space.
There is a bar counter too right in the middle of the restaurant. I wish the bar counter was at the extreme end where the main course was served. This would make the main course and dessert availability equi-distance from any table at the restaurant. People who get the seat near the entrance have to walk a bit to get the main course and desserts.
Then I went upstairs and loved the space upstairs. There was a pool table and old sofas to relax. The old metal staircase gave a feeling of an old house. The music was not too loud and was perfect for the afternoon.
There were live stations where food was cooked like pasta, pancakes, Chicken Chettinaad with Kerala Paratha and Prawns Balchao.
Service:
The service was excellent. Order any dish at the live cooking counters and the waiters offered to serve the dish at the table. So you don’t have to wait till the dish gets ready. Just place an order and leave and the food would come to your table while you continue eating other food. Apart from this the owner gave individual attention to all the guests. She ensured that every customer young and old was happy and took feedback from all. She convinced my daughter to eat the pancake and little one loved it. Being a fussy eater, that was the only thing which she ate properly at the restaurant and she told me that she wants to visit the restaurant just to eat those yummy pancakes.
Food:
The mocktails kept flowing abundantly. Shikanji and Mango Mojito were served at the table.
We started with starters and appetizers. I ordered Prawns Balchao, it was yummy, but it was not like the authentic balchao we make in Goa.
Then we tried the Pesto Murg Kebab which was yummy. Deep fried Kerala style Bombay duck was not that great. The veg starters were good. Paneer Ka Soola and Punjabi Kashta Roll were simply out of the world.
Wood fired freshly made pizza portions were served at the table along with one veg and one non-veg starter. The veg starter was crispy fried babycorn and in non-veg they served chicken lollipops. Both of these were heavenly. But we had to wait for a long time after ordering these starters at the table.
There were variety of salads like Baton Wrap Cucumber, Green Apple & Tuna Salad, Mediterranean Veg Salad, Chicken Hawaiian Salad, etc. I tried the Momos and Bao which were average in taste.
The sushi was yummy. I just loved it. I even got to see the chef make live sushi, wrap into rolls and cut them.
In chats they served Dahi Wada and Pani Puri.
The pancake was heavenly as my daughter said. This is one of the best thing and your kid will love it.
We also tried the Chettinaad chicken with Kerala paratha and veg pasta. They were good but I felt the pasta had less options for toppings.
Variety of dishes were served in main course. In non-veg there were various dishes like Chicken In Chilly Oyster Sauce, Nihari Ghost, Meen Murringakka Curry, Chicken Involtini were served. In veg also lots of options were there like Chilly Garlic Noodles, Home style Matar Paneer, Mushroom Kofta in Palak Gravy, Kadala Paripy & Doodhi, Aloo Nar Broccoli, Stir Fried Asian Green and Grilled Polenta were served. Veg and non-veg biryanis were also served. The non-veg biryani was really worth a try.
Variety of desserts like Fig & Honey Pastry, Marble Eclairs, Coconut Steamed Pudding, Blueberry Philadelphia cream, Duet Mousse, Gulab Jamuns and ice-creams from Baskin Robins were served. We loved the ice-creams.
My verdict:
Food was good. Service was excellent. Ambiance was decent.
Felt that this place was slightly expensive as there were less options in starters as compared to other competitive places where more starters are served in both veg and non-veg categories and children below 6 are not charged.
It would have been good if prawns were included in starters.
