Ambadyachi Uddamethi / Goan Hog Plum Curry
Hog plums are known as ambade in Goa. This ambadyachi uddamethi is a vegan curry and tastes mildly sweet and sour.

- 1 teaspoon urad dal (black gram dal)
- 1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds (methi)
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- A pinch of asafoetida preferably shankar shaap hing
- 5-6 hog plums/ambade peeled
- 2 tablespoon grated jaggery
For Gravy:
- 1 cup freshly grated coconut
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 4 dry red chillies byadgi
- 1 marble sized ball of tamarind
- 5 black peppercorns
Grind all the ingredients for the gravy by adding 1/2-1 cup water. The gravy should not be too watery, but a little thick.
Boil hog plums/ambade in 1/2 cup water. Add jaggery to boiling water.
In a kadai/wok, add 1 teaspoon oil. Then add mustard seeds, when they flutter add urad dal and methi seeds. Add asafoetida.
Next is add the gravy to the mustard seasoning. Add the boiled hog plums and mix.
Add salt to taste. Simmer for 10 Minutes.
