Instructions

Let us see how to make raw banana tikki.

First let us make tamarind paste:

    • Soak tamarind in 4 tablespoon warm water for 20 minutes.
    • Smash it and make paste. This gives 2 tablespoon tamarind paste.
    • You can also buy readymade tamarind paste from a store and use it in this recipe. Keep it aside.

Let us make the plantain cutlets:

    • Wash and cut the raw banana into 2 pieces.
    • You can boil or steam or pressure cook it.
    • After cooling, peel the banana pieces.
    • Finely chop and mash the banana with your hands or a masher.
    • Add finely chopped onion, finely chopped coriander leaves, finely chopped green chilli, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt.
    • Mix everything nicely.
    • Add tamarind paste, finely chopped garlic and ginger and garlic paste. Mix well.
    • Shape into round shaped cutlets with thickness 1 cm. Keep all the cutlets aside on a plate.
    • Mix the rava/semolina/breadcrumbs and salt in a plate. Gently roll the cutlets into the rava/semolina/breadcrumbs and coat it nicely.
    • Grease the tava/frying pan with oil.
    • Once it heats, place the prepared cutlets on the frying pan and shallow fry the cutlets in oil.
    • Flip to the other side after 10 minutes and fry for another 10 minutes.
    • Serve with tomato sauce or chutney of your choice.
