Plantain Rava Fry | Kelyachyo Fodi | Raw Banana Fry

Kelyacho fodi or plantain rava fry is a Goan appetizer recipe made with raw banana or green banana. Raw banana is peeled and sliced and then marinated with spice mix. These are then coated with rava or semolina and shallow fried. This shallow fried plantain can be served as Goan vegetarian snacks.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium sized plantain/raw banana
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoon oil for frying

For the coating:

  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 3 tablespoon rava/Sooji
  • To taste salt

Instructions

  • Wash and peel raw banana with a peeler. Apply oil to your hands to prevent it from getting dark.
  • Cut the green banana into half and then slice it lengthwise. Soak the slices in water for 20 minutes.
  • After 20 minutes, drain the water and apply 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric power and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  • Mix the ingredients meant for coating that is rava, red chili powder, turmeric powder and salt and keep it aside.
  • Heat a frying pan and spread 2 tablespoon oil or as needed.
  • Coat the marinated plantain in rava and spread them on the frying pan.
  • Spread 2 tablespoon oil on top of these and fry for 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes flip them to the other side and again fry for 10 minutes.

Notes

Apply oil to your hands before cutting plantain.
Same procedure can be followed with ripe Kerala banana / Nendra bananas too.
